Title: 2025 Annual Review of African Anglophone Literature

Abstract: In 2025, African anglophone literature demonstrated diverse and profound innovations and continuities across the fields of realism, speculative fiction and non-fiction narratives, as well as the examination of intellectual heritage. The realist tradition deepened through new works by realist writers such as Chimamanda Adichie and Abdulrazak Gurnah; speculative fiction, represented by Nnedi Okorafor and Tochi Onyebuchi, challenged the monopoly of Western narratives, and consolidated indigenous discursive power through international awards; non-fiction narratives emphasized moral engagement, with the works of Omar El Akkad and Khumisho Moguerane; in addition, the successive passing of Africa’s cultural and intellectual giants not only marked the end of an era in African postcolonial theory and literary criticism, but also prompted the academic community to re-examine and transmit intergenerationally the intellectual heritage they left behind.

Keywords: African Anglophone Literature; Realism; Speculative Fiction; Non-fiction; Intellectual Heritage
